Huron Heights

Huron Heights is a large neighbourhood in the northeast end of London with many schools, parks and shopping areas.  The major commercial area lies along the stretch of Highbury Ave. between Huron and Oxford Streets.  The homes in the neighbourhood are mostly post-war bungalows, three storey walk-ups, larger apartment buildings, and some newer single detached homes north of Huron St.

There are many schools in Huron Heights, including Ste-Jeanne-d’Arc French first language, Chippewa, Evelyn Harrison, and St Anne elementary schools, John Paul II and Montcalm secondary schools, as well as Fanshawe College.  Fanshawe College brings in over 50,000 full- and part-time students during the school year.  The Robarts School for the Deaf is also located within Huron Heights. This school was established in 1973 and is one of only four provincial schools for deaf students in Ontario.

The Beacock Branch Library and LUSO Community Services are located near Huron Heights and serve the community.

There are many parks and recreation opportunities in Huron Heights. The Stronach Community Recreation Centre is a hub for the neighbourhood, with two ice surfaces, an outdoor pool and splash pad, a gymnasium, meeting space, baseball diamonds and a skateboard park. The North London Optimist Community Centre, located on Cheapside just east of Highbury, provides indoor gymnasium and community centre space, indoor squash and tennis courts, rollerskating and outdoor tennis facilities. There are also many smaller parks in the area for residents to enjoy, including Cayuga Park, Huronview Park, Pawnee Park, and Farnsborough Park.
