Old East Village

Old East Village is a historic neighbourhood in London, just east of Downtown.  It was designated as an Ontario Heritage Conservation District in 2006 to recognize and protect its history and sense of place. The neighbourhood has seen a significant amount of revitalization in recent years, in both the residential and commercial areas.  There is a mix of housing styles in the neighbourhood, mainly late 19th and early 20th century single detached homes, along with some newer apartment buildings. Throughout the neighbourhood there is a strong ‘front-porch’ culture.  The main commercial corridor is along Dundas St., where there are many locally owned shops, restaurants, and cultural landmarks.  The Western Fair Farmers and Artisans Market, open on Saturdays, is a major economic and social feature of the neighbourhood.

There are many great opportunities for recreation in Old East Village. Boyle Park has a playground, basketball court, and tennis courts, as well as a Community Centre with meeting rooms, a gymnasium, and kitchen facilities.  The Western Fair District has an arena with four ice surfaces, live horse racing, a casino, and large event grounds that hosts the annual Western Fair. Queens Park is connected to the Western Fair and fronts onto Dundas Street. Carson Library Branch is also located in the heart of Old East Village.

St. Mary Choir Catholic School is located in the neighbourhood, and students also attend East Carling Public School, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, and Central, Catholic Central, and H.B. Beal secondary schools.
